چکیده

It is the purpose of the present paper to report electron microscopic observations on the hyalinizing form of renal arteriolosclerosis, and particularly on the localization of hyaline deposits and their relationships to normal structural components of the arteriolar wall. The problem of the nature, origin and pathogenetic significance of arteriolar hyalin in the kidney and other organs in various diseases, as well as in aging, has been extensively reviewed in a recent publication.1 In the present work attention is focused on the morphologic features of renal arteriolar hyalinosis in nondiabetic hypertensive patients. However, since lesser degrees of arteriolar hyalinosis occasionally observed in normotensive nondiabetic elderly patients present essentially similar features, the material available from these patients is included here. The findings indicate that arteriolar hyalin may constitute a deposit of substances of hematogenous origin and that it is distinct from collagen, elastic tissue, basement membrane material, fibrin and amyloid.

HbA1c is an Independent Determinant of Renal Vascular Resistance Estimated by Doppler Sonography in Non-Diabetic Hypertensive Patients

Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a progressive disease that leads to renal failure and end stage renal disease. A frequent and early manifestation of diabetic nephropathy is hyaline arteriolosclerosis. The noninvasive method for estimating the severity of arteriolosclerosis is measurement of the renal resistive index (RI). In this study, we determined whether or not normal blood glucose cont...

Uric acid correlates with the severity of histopathological parameters in IgA nephropathy.

BACKGROUND Immunoglobulin-A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common chronic glomerulonephritis worldwide. Many clinical and histopathological risk factors for progression have been found previously. Recently, metabolic risk factors, such as hyperuricaemia and hypertriglyceridaemia, also have been associated with the progression of IgAN. METHODS In the present study we correlated clinical and me...

Author's response to reviews Title: Chronic kidney disease, severe renal vascular involvement and kidney neoplasia: on the spectrum of kidney involvement in MELAS syndrome. Authors:

The morphological examination revealed a widespread interstitial fibrosis with dense inflammatory infiltrate and tubular atrophy, mostly with thyroidization pattern. Vascular lesions were prominent: large vessels displayed marked intimal fibrosis and arterioles had hyaline deposits typical of hyaline arteriolosclerosis. These severe vascular lesions explained the different glomerular alteration...

Cocaine use and hypertensive renal changes in HIV-infected individuals.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Cocaine causes kidney damage, but data linking cocaine use to chronic kidney disease in HIV patients is not described. This study was conducted to evaluate the possible association of cocaine use and histopathologic findings on biopsy in this population. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Kidney biopsies that were performed in HIV-infected patients during ...

Biopsy Proven Renal Diseases:Clinicopathological Correlations

Background: To determine the clinicopathological correlations of biopsy proven renal disease (BPRD). Methods: In this descriptive study all the consecutive percutaneous renal biopsies (RB) were included in the study. The indications for RB were classified into the five clinical categories, i,e, nephrotic syndrome (NS), non-nephrotic proteinuria (NNP), proteinuria-hematuria (PH), renal failure (...
